
OnMusic Appreciation Instructor Orientation
Accessing the Course
- Access the course website by going to
www.connect4education.org
- Type your Login Name and Password. Click Logon.
- Read the Broadcast Message titled, “Important Information and Download Center.” All important announcements will be posted in the Broadcast Message Board.
CD-ROM Set Up (PC Users)
All the multimedia resources for the course music, graphics, and interactive content are on the course CD-ROMs. Please make sure the correct CD-ROM is in the CD-ROM drive, and the CD-ROM Setup is done properly.
WARNING: If you do not do the CD-ROM Setup properly, you will not be able to listen to music, see pictures, or view interactive content in the course.
- Insert CD1 into the CD-ROM drive. Wait for 10 seconds.
Windows XP users: If a new window pops up and asks "What do you want Windows to do?", click Cancel.

- Double-click "My Computer" icon on your desktop. If you do not have a "My Computer" icon on your desktop, click Start button and click "My Computer."
In the "My Computer" window, you should see OMA1, and the drive letter beside the name of the CD-ROM disk.

- Please write down your CD-ROM drive letter. You will need this information to complete the CD-ROM Setup process.
- Go to www.connect4education.org
- Type your Login Name and Password. Click Logon.
- Scroll to the bottom of the course page until you see the Instructor Control Panel.

- Under the My Setting column, click CD-ROM Setup.

- You should see the OMA1 CD icon on your desktop. If you do not see OMA1 CD, take out the CD and re-insert it.
- Go to www.connect4eduction.org
- Type your Login Name and Password. Click Logon.
- Scroll to the bottom of the course page until you see the Instructor Control Panel.

- Under the My Setting column, click CD-ROM Setup.
- Select OMA1 in the dropdown menu.

Course Content
- To access course materials, under the Content column click Index to view class headings, or Detailed Index to view detailed class content.

- To view all written assignments, quizzes, and exams, click Inspect Assignments under the My Workbook column.

Testing and Assessments
Quizzes and Exams Security
- Test security: Once students start taking a test, the system prevents them from accessing other areas of the course until the test has been completed.
- Test question randomization: Questions are presented randomly. No two students receive same question at the same time.
- Testing weight contingency: If quizzes haven’t been completed, students will not do well in the two course exams. Questions in the examinations are based on the quiz questions.
Student Progress Tracking and Electronic Gradebook
- Activity tracking at the end of each class. Progress information available to instructors at all times.
- Grades and running average kept in electronic Gradebook.
- A “Grade Me” link next to the student's name in the Gradebook reminds instructors of written assignments pending grading.

Grading Written Assignments
- Scroll to the bottom of the course page until you see the Instructor Control Panel.
- Click Gradebook under the Tools.

- Click Grade Me.

- Click Grade Me under the Grade column and read the assignment.
- To leave a comment for the student, please use the comment text box. Use the Percent drop-down menu to select a numerical grade, and click Grade.
NOTE: If you would like to give the student another try please use the Letter Grade drop-down menu, select "I" for Incomplete, checkmark "Give the student another try", and click Grade.

Inspecting Quiz/Exam
- Click Gradebook under the Tools column.

- Click the name of the student.
- Click the percentage or --- under the Grade column.
- Click inspect the exam.
- You will now be able to review the student's quiz/exams questions and answers.
Reading Student Comments on Quizzes and Exams
- Click Gradebook under the Tools column.

- Scroll down until you see the Comments section. Click Comments.
NOTE: If you do not see the Comments section, none of your students have left a comment yet. The Comments section will appear when the first comment is posted.

- Read the student comments.

Hide This Comment: You can hide a comment to keep track of what comments you have looked at already.
Change the Grade: This will allow you to modify the grade.

Changing Grades
- Click Gradebook.
- Click the name of the student whose grade you wish to change.
- Scroll to the quiz/exam. On the Grade column, click (percentage grade or ---).
- If you wish, type in your comments in the Comments text box and change the grade by using the percent drop down menu.
- Click Grade.
Grades - Calculating End of Semester Grades
The electronic Gradebook will automatically calculate the student's end of semester grade. In order for the Gradebook to properly calculate the grades, all assignments need to be graded. Please see the sample below.

The student's end of semester grade will appear under the Final column of the Gradebook. At the moment, the Final column indicates an I for Incomplete. The Graded column indicates the student has completed 42 of 44 assignments. In order for the system to calculate the student's semester grade, the instructor will need to grade the remaining two assignments.

The Grade Column now has 44 of 44. The student received 72.64% for the semester and received a C-.
Reset Quiz/Exam
- Click Gradebook.
- Click the name of the student whose grade you wish to change.
- Scroll to the quiz/exam. On the Grade column, click (percentage grade or ---).
- On the Percent drop down menu, scroll all the way down and select Ungrade.
- Click Grade.
Scheduling Quiz/Exam
- Click Gradebook.
- Click the name of student you wish to schedule.
- Scroll to the quiz/exam. On the Grade column, click (percentage grade or ---).
- Click Scheduling at the bottom left of the assignment's screen.
- A scheduling form will prompt you to set the Start and Stop dates/times when the assignment can be completed.
Scheduling Example
The original deadline for this quiz was May 22 midnight. Let's change the deadline to May 23, midnight.

- This form allows you to schedule a deadline to the class as a whole, or only to the particular student whose grades you are inspecting. Upon clicking the Schedule button, the schedule will be set, and you will be shown all of the schedules that have been set for that particular assignment. If several students have been given different schedules for that assignment, they will all be listed on the confirmation page.
IMPORTANT NOTICE for instructors teaching more than 1 course: If you are teaching more than 1 course/section and if multiple Gradebooks appear on the same Gradebook page, please make sure you are in the same section as the student you are scheduling it for. Please refer to example below.

You teach the 2 sections and you have a student named John Doe who is registered in Section B.

Let's say you have a student named John Doe. When you log into the course you happen to be in Section A. If you wanted to change the schedule for John Doe you will need to figure out what section he is in. Since he is in Section B, you first need to click "Switch Courses" on the red control panel and switch to section B. Then you do the scheduling in the Gradebook. Note: If you are in Section A and you try to schedule a student in Section B, the scheduling feature will not work properly.
Scheduling Wizard (Scheduling Multiple Assignments for Whole Class)
The Scheduling Wizard page will allow you to view what deadlines have been set for the whole class. On this page you can schedule a deadline for multiple assignments.
- Click Deadlines under the Tools column.

- Select "Yes" for the assignments you want to schedule. If you want to do it for all of the assignments (quizzes, written assignments, exams), click "select all."
- Scroll down to the scheduling form. Set the Start and Stop dates/times when the assignments can be completed.
- Click Schedule.
Drop Student From Class Roster
- On the Instructor Control Panel, click Drop student under the Tools column.
- Select a student on the "Drop a Student from the Roster" drop down menu.
- Click Drop.
Discussion Forum: Posting a new Discussion forum
Creating a Forum
- To post a new discussion forum, click Forums under the Community column of the instructor control panel.
- Click Create a New Forum.
- Type in the title of the forum and click Create. The forum will be created.
Creating a Topic
- Click enter this forum.
- Click Start a New Topic.
- Type the title of your topic, enter your message in the Message box, and click Create.
Discussion Forum: To check students’ postings
- To check students’ postings, click Forums under the Community column of the instructor control panel.
- Click Enter a Forum and click the title of the forum you wish to view.
- Click the title of the topic.
- To reply to the topic, click Respond to This Topic.
- Type your message into Message box and click Respond.
Communication
You can e-mail all of your students within the system. You do NOT need to have a list of their e-mail addresses to do this.
- To send e-mail to a student, a group of students, or everyone in the class, click E-mail Students under the Community column of the instructor control panel.
- To send an e-mail to one student or a group of students, click E-mail More Than One. Type the subject, your message, and checkmark the names of students you wish to send the message to. Click Send.
- To send an e-mail to all of the students in your class, click E-mail Everyone. Type the subject, your message, and click Send.
